For the 8th consecutive year, Charleston's continued recognition as the top city in the South by Southern Living readers can be attributed to its rich blend of historical charm, vibrant cultural scene, and warm hospitality. The city's unique architecture, walkable downtown, and picturesque settings play a significant role in its appeal. Charleston's thriving tourism industry, supported by diverse attractions and renowned dining options, such as award-winning barbecue joints and locally-owned restaurants, further contribute to its allure. Charleston edged out Savannah to claim the title of “South’s Best City” for 2024 for the eighth consecutive year. It also published a list of the 28 best things to do in Charleston. The only other South Carolina city on the list, Greenville, came in sixth place. Atlanta came in seventh place and Charlotte ranked 12th. Little Rock, Arkansas ranked 25th in the 2024 rundown. Two other South Carolina cities ranked in the magazine’s “Best City on the Rise” list: Spartanburg came in third on that list while Columbia came in fifth.
